Grimm Grotto is the repository of John Tudek’s caving cartoons. I’ve been drawing cave cartoons off and on for 20+ years now and I’ve been privledged enough that my cartoons have been in all sorts of places from grotto newsletters to the NSS News.
I started my caving career in the early 1990s, using carbide, old backpacks and cotton coveralls. My primary interests are in surveying and karst geology (I hold an MS in Geology from West Virginia University). Although I cut my caving teeth in the small caves of New Jersey, upstate New York and eastern Pennsylvania, I fell in love with the caves in West Virginia. In 2005 I made the impetuous move away from the big city… and never looked back.
Legally, these cartoons are licensed to the general publicunder a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 2.5 License. This means that you are free to copy and reuse any of my drawings (non-commercially) as long as you tell people where they’re from. (i.e. that I drew them).
If you want to use them for other reasons, you’ll have to contact me so we can work something out. If it’s caving-related then I’m pretty cool about it.
Currently, I’m still drawing new cartoons on an irregular basis. As a rule, cartoons will first appear in print – be it in the West Virginia Caver or the Region Record (the newsletter of the Virginia Area Region). If you have suggestions for cartoons send me a message – either to my email or on my Facebook page.
